Magnetic melodies from Europe – wild temperament driven between easterly and westerly winds, between ardent desire and joyful fulfilment. Between the bitter and the sweet.

This is the world of the tango, as played by Quadro Nuevo.

The instrumental quartet has long since established its own form of poetical sound, beyond the genre stereotypes.
Based on European formed tango, Quadro Nuevo enriches this musical direction with elements of Flamenco, Valse Musette, Balkan swing, Oriental music, daring improvisations and an incomparable Mediterranean sense of ease.

On their latest album tango bitter sweet euphoric classics like “Petite Fleur“, ”Tango Jalousie“ or the sabre dance blossom in fresh, opalescent colours. Almost forgotten melodies once again touch the senses, make butterflies dance on the skin and send a yearning to the heart.
These mix with electrifying self-compositions, recounting tales from the vagabond life of the four virtuosi.

The unmistakable sound of Quadro Nuevo resounds on this CD too:
Sensual as the summer nights on the Mediterranean Sea, compelling as passion, bitter-sweet as lovesickness.

Even the 1970s hits like Dalida’s “Paroles, Paroles“ or ”L’été indien“ from Joe Dassin are filled with so much personal flair that one hardly wants to let them go.

The secret is devotion. Seldom has one experienced that music is performed with so much excitement, verve, almost tender love of the instrument and empathy with foreign cultures.

Quadro Nuevo has been distinguished by the German Phono Association with fifteen Jazz Awards and has received the European Impala three times. Their albums have been number one in the World Music Charts, Top Ten of the Jazz Charts and have reached the Top 50 of the German Album Charts.
The Echo, the German Phono Academy’s highest distinction, was presented to Quadro Nuevo in both 2010 and 2011 in the category “Jazz/World Music, Best Live Act”.

The four musicians have been touring the countries of the world for ten years and have so far given around 2500 concerts. Their venues are as diverse as the roots of their music: The nostalgic-acoustic ensemble not only appears in concert halls and at festivals. The fervent virtuosi also travel around the southern Mediterranean as street musicians inviting their audience to dance as a nightly tango band.

Quadro Nuevo performed concert tours in Singapore, Korea, Canada, Australia and throughout Europe from Spain to Estonia. The quartet has played at numerous renowned festivals, such as the Montreal Jazz Festival, the ’Internationale Jazzwoche Burghausen’, the ’Rheingau Musikfestival’, the ’Meraner Musikwochen’ or Quebec Festival to name but a few.
