The tabla is the best-known Indian percussion instrument and consists of two asymmetric drums, played with the bare hands or also with single fingers.
A black painted layer ( a mixture of fine iron powder, coal and white rice) on the drum head of the two drums (”bayan“ & ”dayan“) is essential for the formation of the sound. This must always be well moistened while playing!
My tabla set is a gift from my colleague Mulo Francel from a small music shop in “Indian Village” in Singapore, with which he has brought me a great deal of long-lasting pleasure. Thanks for binging it back so far!
